“To keep the body in good health is a duty, otherwise, we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear.”

5341900As massage therapists, clients are always asking us how often they should get a massage, and for how long. As with every treatment for the human body, massage therapy treatment plans need to be tailored to fit the specific needs of each person. Even though there isn’t a concrete answer to this question, there is a general treatment plan that we like to start from before we begin to customize it.

How long should the massage be? The most common massage duration is 60 minutes, but we normally recommend a 90 minute session. 90 minutes is the perfect amount of time to receive a full body treatment. It is very important to work on the whole body because everything is connected in some way. Your body compensates for itself from top to bottom, left to right, and front to back in order to keep itself in balance. When one area is noticeably tense or painful, it is very likely that that problem was either caused by another area in the body that went undetected or that the problem area is effecting another part of the body negatively. During a 90 minute session, your therapist will have ample time to work on multiple areas.

How often? Ideally, we would love to see everyone get a massage once a week, especially if you have a chronic problem. Once the problem calms down a bit, it’s good to still continue with the treatments regularly as maintenance and preventative care. You can receive maintenance care once a week, once every two weeks, or even once a month, depending on what you and your therapist decide is best for you.

We hope this was helpful! Thank you for visiting. We at Koru wish you wellness.
