Join Us In Raising Awareness For Childhood Cancer

Every September, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is supported by people and organizations all over the world. It is a time to shed light on the disease, those that are affected by it, and what we can do to help kids and their families.

According to the American Childhood Cancer Organization, childhood cancer kills more children than any other disease. It affects over 400,000 kids globally, with about 16,000 of those cases occurring in the U.S. alone. Due to how prevalent this disease is, it is crucial to raise awareness about childhood cancer now more than ever before.

To create awareness for this cause, we’re highlighting a company local to our area and all the work they do for childhood oncology. Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is Georgia’s leading pediatric healthcare provider. They have supported the local community for over 100 years and are dedicated to providing the best support possible for kids and their families.

Not only are we proud to support the work they do, but we’re also proud to support their dedicated and hardworking staff of nurses, doctors, practitioners, and administrators. We make routine visits to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and offer on-site massages to their staff and personnel. When we can help relieve some of their stress, we consider ourselves successful and feel like we’re making a difference and supporting the community.

At Vinings Massage, we value providing massage support for our Oncology patients. The doctors and nurses are doing an amazing job caring for these patients, but they are used to their caretakers causing pain during tests, treatments, and surgeries. Massage therapy is a non-invasive form of touch that can help to relieve stress in the patient and balance out the clinical touch they are used to receiving during treatment.

In addition to stress relief, oncology massage can provide many benefits for patients. It can:

  • Alleviate side effects of treatment such as headaches or nausea
  • Reduce some of the anxiety a patient is feeling
  • Provide more restful sleep for patients
  • Decrease overall pain levels
  • Improve overall mood and emotional side effects associated with cancer
